Here is an opportunity to acquire a large and very handsome Dresden lace group, comprising a mother and two children in eighteenth century costume reading a book. The group is mounted upon a typical ornate plinth with gold detailing.
it is the second of two fine \'lace\' figures that I am listing this week, the other being by Sitzendorf.The mark on the base of this one is that of Sandizell. Sandizell, Hofner &Co was founded in 1951. This charming group shows a mother in a wonderfully elaborate flounced pale green and white lace gown seated on a gold trimmed settee. She holds a book in one hand and is reading from it to her two children, a small girl in a dress in the same green lace as her mother’s and a boy in a fine darker green coat and embroidered waistcoat. The settee is beautifully rendered with gold outlining to match the plinth.ConditionThere is usually damage to the lace on so many of these lace figurines, often extensive, but, in this case, losses are very few and are not intrusive. There is a little from the fichu at her neck at the mother’s right shoulder and the little girl’s dress has a small loss at the front. There is a tiny portion of white lace adhering to the mother’s skirt just below her left hand. Photographs are provided showing these losses. Otherwise, the heads, hands and limbs are all intact. There are no signs of repairs, cracks, crazing or restoration anywhere. The painted areas of the faces and arms, the flowers and other details of the competition are also in excellent condition and very well executed. This lovely group has clearly been well cared for.This is inevitably heavy and it weighs 1.1456K without packing, and measures 20 cm (8”) tall, 20 cm (8”) in length and 10 cm (4”) in width. Please bear in mind that it requires very good protective packaging and plenty of it.

Postal prices as given assume the arrangements given below.This piece is in excellent condition but is delicate so if the buyer is overseas, I am not able to send it by the Royal Mail ‘International Signed For\' as the box sizes permitted under those services are very inadequate, in my view, to protect this figurine. Please note that I have sent lace figures all over the world for some years and have never had a breakage. I always use good strong new packaging (for which I make no charge) of a size which allows plenty of space for the piece. I always insure for the full value, both measures minimising the risk of loss or theft.Therefore, in view of the box size limitations imposed by the Royal Mail on ‘small packages’, if the buyer is overseas I will use my well tried international courier service which still accesses the international parcel service ‘Parcelforce’ but at a much cheaper rate. This will allow for the essential extra packing and a larger box and has proved very reliable and fast in the past with advantage to everyone. For example, to send this to the USA would cost £52.82: to send it to China would be £68.50: to send it to Australia would be £74.78. Postage rate will be important..!
