DANISH MODERN PAIR TEAK/CANVAS END TABLES/MAGAZINE RACKS(THAILAND) Mid Cent Mod:
$100.75

For sale is this PAIR of absolutely gorgeous and in excellent condition, after the original Danish furniture design, VINTAGE DANISH MODERN TEAK and BONE WHITE CANVAS END TABLES/MAGAZINE RACKS, MADE in THAILAND, with HEX HEAD FASTENERS.Each end table/magazine rack measures 17 3/8\" in height x 17 1/8\" in depth x 17 1/4\"in width. This design bears all the hallmarks of very well considered Scandinavian Modernist furniture design, where like the Bauhaus school, there\'s an insistence on the marriage of form and function, existing in a state of perfect equilibrium. These tables are not only beautiful to look at but they work, saving space, doubling as end tables and personal magazine racks for a sitter\'s reading materials, be it a newspaper, magazine or book. It can accommodate several magazines in its canvas pouch while also handling a table lamp base, ashtray, clock or nick-nack. They have lift and the tapered legs give the tables an airiness and make them appear to be almost levitating. The surface of the teak is free from dings, gauges and deep scratches. There\'s the faintest residual shadow of where a glass or pot may have been, leaving a ghost on one of the tables. Both tables have been steamed with an iron and clean linen to remove this and upon oiling, the teak surfaces of both table tops appear to be little, if ever used. These were clearly not abused pieces of furniture and still maintain their original beauty and elegance. The bone white canvas that comprises the magazine pouch is fairly clean, with only the slightest bit of minor soiling at the very basin of the pouch. This is barely noticeable and not noticeable when viewing the tables from the outside. The construction of these pieces of furniture, farmed out for mass production due to their popularity in Thailand, where teak wood was readily available, is well done, with the canvas being held into place by horizontal teak dowels that hold the cut-out cloth tight against the teak frame with sewn cutouts. This appears more akin to shipbuilding and sail cloth tailoring than mere furniture making. There\'s an inherent and vital economy of design at play here. This is quite possibly what \'IKEA\' should be, inexpensive and well-considered design for the urban apartment dweller, where space is at a premium and for the person who wants superb design at an affordable price. These great little teak tables would work in a variety of interior Modern furniture design schemes. They look equally good in daylight as well as in a less well lit nocturnal interior setting. The amber teak glows and works very nicely against the bone white sail cloth of the magazine pouch. OVERALL CONDITION: VERY GOOD/EXCELLENT!
