William Lawrence \"Larry\" Gardner (May 13, 1886 - March 11, 1976, was a third baseman in Major League Baseball. From 1908 through 1924, Gardner played for the Boston Red Sox (1908-17), Philadelphis Athletics, and Cleveland Indians (1919-24) . He was in the first World Series played in Fenway park (1912) and two more before he moved on. He was on the same team as Babe Ruth for several years. Born in Enosburg, Vermont - in Boston Red Sox HOF.

The 1912 Red Sox have a special connection to Vermont as former University of Vermont baseball player Larry Gardner was a member of the World Series Champions. Gardner clinched the championship with a series-ending sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning that gave Boston a 3-2 victory.
