Helen Keller (1880-1968) Author, political activist,lecturer. Keller was blind and deaf. She was deprived by illness of sight andhearing at the age of 19 months, and her speech development soon ceased aswell. She wrote several books, including The Story of My Life. Herchildhood was dramatized in William Gibson\'s play The Miracle Worker. 7 ¼” x 9 ¼” typed letter signed, in pencil, personalstationery, February 13, 1929, to Mr. Schwarzchild. “out of the night of my individual blindness has come a call—the urgeof others’ need…it will never cease until the wall of darkness has been brokendown for my 100,000 companions in blindness…the American Foundation for theBlind…with the support of influential and compassionate friends…may lead all ofmy blind fellows out of their dreary isolation….” Age toned and soiled,tears in the margin folds.
