We did removeit from the box and test using both batteries (not included) and the Dept 56 Brite Lites Adapter #52256 (not included-note we do sell these in both new and used conditions separately-see our separate listings). It worked perfectly both ways. Though like anything, it appeared to us to be brighter when using the adapter vs. batteries

Thisis old store stock. It was never displayed in theGift Shopnor eversold to a customer. It has been in storage since at least 2008 - probablylonger (as they put the last of their items from the closed shops in storage in2008 - many items were already instorage when they closed the stores).Overthe next year (2017-2018)or longer we will be listing thousandsof Dept 56 Village items. Some of the items are:

-Brand New with Perfect or near Perfect Original Packaging

-New with Minimal Wear or a Minor Flaw to the Packaging such as a faint waterstain or have crinkled corners or dimples, a very small amount of yellow agespots may be present or starting

-New - No Sleeveor Heavily Flawed Sleeve (for example; yellow agespots, tears, water damaged/stained, crushed corners)

-Some were just outright Used - Store Displayed

Often,we have the same piece with various different conditions. Obviously the moreissues with a piece, the cheaper the price will be! Should you needquantity of an item---we may have it available-let us know.

Asthese pieces tend to be older (15-30 years old on average), occasionallyfactory glue has yellowed and can become noticeable at connection points overthe years. Also keep in mind, as most of the pieces are hand painted porcelainbuilt in sections, individual nuances do occur such as beingable to seethe brush strokes or a missed corner being painted. We do check every piece andtry to describe each as accurately as possible (with both verbiage and/or pictures)but we may miss some due to theshear volume we are looking at!
