$85.00

A pristine vase with no imperfections. Measures 10 incheshigh and 5 ½ wide. The numerals 780 and the word Doulton are impressed in thebase.

This vase is an example of Tapestry Ware. This was similarto Chine Ware, a decorative process patented by Doulton and John Slater (Art Directorat Doulton\'s Burslem Factory) in the 1880\'s. It involved pressing moistenedpieces of material into the clay as soon as it had come from the wheel. Pointlace was used for Chine Ware and plain cotton net for Tapestry Ware which gavethe texture and appearance of embroidery. The superimposed decoration was thenembellished and often gilded to form an elaborate and colorful finish.

Tapestry Ware was made at Doulton\'s Burslem factory during the 1880s-1890speriod. Examples of both usually bear a mark reading DOULTON & SLATERSPATENT whilst Tapestry Ware is also marked US Patent indicating that Doulton Cohad registered the ware at the Patent Office for sale to the North Americanmarket.

Tapestry Ware usually featured decorative motifs in the\'Aesthetic style\' and was painted by numerous artists not all of whom signedtheir work.
