Dutch Silver Bird Spice Box

This is a fantastic Dutch solid silver figural spice box. It is shaped in the form of a duck (or similar water bird) with glass ruby eyes. There are hallmarks indicating that this piece was made in Holland in 1920. The lion passant with key and the number 2 indicates the silver purity to be a minimum 83.3% pure. The Minerva head with the letter \"E\" indicates that this piece was assayed in Groningen. It is also marked \"HOLLAND\". There is no maker\'s mark that I can find.

This piece measures 6-1/3\" inches in length, with a height of 4-3/4\" inches. It weighs 111 grams.

Part of the back toe of one of the duck\'s feet is broken off. The duck still stands fine without it. The rest of the piece is in very good condition with no issues. There is a small knob on the back of the duck to lift the back. You open the back by applying a bit of pressure to the sides and lifting the knob. When you close the back, it snaps securely shut.
