This great item is a medal or badge worn at a convention or meeting of the Knights of the Golden Eagle, a fraternal group founded in 1872 and that now, according to some sources, no longer exists. The regalia of this group was patterned after Civil War uniforms and those of the Knights Templar. The KGE membership peaked in the very early 1900s, and this badge is thought to date to this period. The upper pinback bar has the word SOUVENIR on it, most likely indicating that this item served as a souvenir of the gathering. The lower medal has a great central image that appears to be the official KGE symbol or logo. The words FIDELITY, VALOR, and HONOR appear on a banner circling the central shield. There are no backmarks for manufacturer or metal content; however, the entire item appears to be composed of brass that has toned to a very attractive rich brown. There is an attachment pin with hook-style closure on the upper bar. The medal/badge measures approximately 1-3/8 x 2.\"

This item is in very good condition, with no apparent wear, with light soiling, and it remains somewhat bright. The attachment pin and closure work very well.
