EARLY ANTIQUE REDWARE JUG - Ovoid / bulbous shape & outstanding condition:

Welcome!
This sale is for a very old, very beautiful redware jug that I purchased 25 years ago from a high-end Seattle antiques dealer who did all her buying in New England.I\'ve kept this piece in a safe spot in my smoke-free home ever since, and it\'s in truly excellent shape. The handle is strong and secure, and it has no cracks at all (it rings like a bell). The only flaw is a small chip on the lip that was there when I bought it, but otherwise, this piece is mint. Please note that if you magnify my photos, you\'ll notice spots where the glaze wasn\'t smoothly applied. Those glaze skips are less than 1/8 of an inch long -- much smaller than they may seem onscreen -- and again, they\'re part of the normal glazing and firing process.
When I bought this little piece, the dealer told me it made in the early 1800s. That\'s when the ovoid shape was used, and it can also be dated by the fact that redware use waned as stoneware became popular, beginning in the early 1800s. So this little beauty has been passed from collector to collector for about 200 years. Gotta say, I hate to part with it...but it\'s time I let it go to someone who will treasure it as I have.It looks lovely with some bittersweet tucked inside, or bayberries, or -- with the holidays coming up -- holly. Or you can just display it plain, as I have.
The jug\'s size is 6.75 inches high by 5 inches wide at the handle, andI\'ll ship this with insurance and packed VERY carefully.
Thank you for stopping by....and if you collect redware, please check my other sales for a lovely, one-of-a-kind pitcher from Wisconsin Pottery\'s Joel Huntley!
