Early/mid 19th century linen and wool work sampler by Mary Thomas 1844. This sampler is just delightful with neat stitch work throughout. The top half of the linen is stitched with a charming two storey red house with trees, flowers, a dog and floral urn on either side, with the following biblical quotation and Mary\'s details below

The bottom half of the linen is stitched with a central carnation basket with flowers and fruit baskets on each side of the lower part and flowers. trees, diamond motifs, hearts and crowns to the left and right of the upper part. The whole thing is then surrounded by a deep strawberry border.The linen has overall discolouration consistent with its age, slightly darker in places with the odd, small dark mark. The sampler is framed so I\'m not able to see the back. But the colours appear good, although no doubt slightly mellowed from their original hue. There is also a small area of missing stitch work to the carnation basket and the roof of the house and the odd stitch elsewhere. The sampler is contained within a good quality early 20th century carved wood gilt frame c.1930 which has some scuffing commensurate with its age and a small \"bite\" out of the bottom right corner. THERE IS NO GLASS IN THE FRAME. Measures 12 1/4 \" x 17 1/4 \" (sight size) and 15 1/4 \" x 20\" including the frame.
