ELEGANT SOLID STERLING SILVER TEA CADDY CONTAINER BOX - BY WILLIAM AITKEN HALLMARKED BIRMINGHAM 1915

This lovely tea caddy is extremely elegant in its simplicity. It was crafted at the time of the First World War in 1915 and is in very good condition for its antique age. Please note that it was difficult to photograph due to reflections.

HALLMARKS: The hallmarks are particularly crisp and clear on both the base of the tea caddy and inside the lid. They are: the letters “W.A” for William Aitken; the Anchor to show that the silver was assayed in Birmingham; over the lion passant denoting solid English silver; the letter “q” for the year 1915. Inside the lid there is further lion passant and the letter “q” showing that it is the original lid for this container.

APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT: Height – 7.8cm; Base 7.5cm by 4.5cm. It weighs 65g.

CONDITION: It is in very good condition for its age. There are the usual light surface marks that are common to silver as it is a very soft metal, some scratches and dings, all commensurate with age and use and as you would expect with a piece of this age. There are some tiny spots of tarnish that will polish out. There is a very thin slit in the silver where the neck meets the body of the container of 1mm or less of only about 2.5cm length. It is not noticeable and does not affect the piece in any way. The top fits tightly and snugly.

This is a super little tea caddy of almost 100 years old. It is extremely elegant in its simplicity and a great slice of history, crafted during the First World War. It would make a super gift for you to give or to add to your own collection of antique silver.

Please note that this lovely antique silver tea caddy is on offer at a very reasonable Buy It Now price, with free P&P included in the UK, and offers will not be considered.
