Signed original pastel painting by well listed California artistErnest Henry Pohl (1874-1956). The visible area is about8 by 16 inches. It is signed in the lower right corner \"E. POHL\".Not inspected out of the frame. There appears to be a diagonalcrack in the cardboard, to the right of the signature. Housed underglass in a veryfine antique gilt frame, that has minor wear, and small areasof touch up to the finish. Overall framed dimensions are 16 by 27inches and very elegant looking.

Founder with his wife of the La Jolla, California Art Center, Ernest Pohl was businessman who did pastel painting in his leisure time. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, and by 1915 he had settled in San Diego at 4468 Hortensa Street.

His works include desert landscapes of Coachella Valley and Borrego Valley. Exhibition venues include the La Jolla Art Assocation and the University of Notre Dame at South Bend.

He died in San Diego on Jan. 9, 1956.
