In 1979, prior to the release of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back,the studio sent theatres an oversized promotional item in the form of a\"Black Press Portfolio.\" These \"Portfolios\" have become extremelyscarce...one of the rarest Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back Movie Theatre owner / Media promotional items ever produced.The oversized promotional item consists of a large rectangular black cardboard box (see pic #2), which features a silk-screened black on black image of Darth Vader on its left side (see pic #3). The interior of the black box contains a gorgeous oversized posterboard quality sleeve (see pic #4), which was sealed with a solid pewter Darth Vader helmet emblem [which includes a loop at the top to utilize as a necklace pendant if the receiver wished to use it as such (see pics #5 and #6)]. Contained within the black sleeve are two very large, previously unpublished lithographs featuring pre-production artwork (much larger then the Bantam Portfolio prints) by the legendary Star Wars alumni artist Ralph McQuarrie, depicting: 1.) \"Hoth Rebel Base Interior Headquarters\": A dynamic image of Hoth personnel at instrument control boards with a C3PO style robot present (see pic #7).

2.) \"The Millenium Falcon Escaping Giant Space Slug\": A striking image of the infamous Asteroid chase sequence where the Falcon flies out of the jaws of the giant space slug (see pic #8).
Theseimages are very suitable for framing and were considered amazingpromotional gift items for theatre owners and members of the media.Some well-written promotional text is Included alongside the extremelylimited lithographs (see pic #10).- - - - -As a whole, the Portfolio I have for sale is in fantastic condition! In fact, the Ralph McQuarrie prints themselves are FLAWLESS! There\'s a tear in the envelope from when it was first opened (see pic #6), and the top corners of the foldout sleeve each have minute tears in them as well (see pics #11 and #12). There\'s a little bit of wear on the black box near the Darth Vader image (see pic #3), but the item is otherwise pristine.- - - - -
