Presented aRARE LOVELYVINTAGE RUSSIAN OLD GZHEL PORCELAIN FIGURE OF GIRL GRIEVING OVER KID.
The figure was created after a 19th century Russian fairy taleof a sister and her little brother who disobeyed her and, being thirsty, drankfrom a charmed pool left by a kid’s hoof andturned into a goatling himself.
The figure depicts the inconsolable girl grieving over her brother as kidwho looks up to her.
She wears a light-blue sarafan – a Russian 19th century longdress, decorated with gold, and a head-band. Her braid was a customary andcherished hairdo of Russian girls and women of the period.
It wasmade c 1965 at Gzhel Porcelain Works (est. in mid-17th century) andbears green Cyrillic ‘ТЗ’ (TZ) markdating to 1960-1970.
Thislovely polychrome figure was modelled by Lyudmila Azarova.
Itstands 6 1/3\" (16.3 cm) and measures 5 ½ \" (14 cm) by almost 5\"(12.5 cm).
Excellentcondition, no chips, cracks or restoration.
