EXQUISITE ANTIQUE FRENCH PLASTER RELIGIOUS PLAQUE ANGELS, CHERUB, DOVE 19th C

I am listing the contents of an attic clearance from a Normandie Attic. textile, lace, linens, books, cottons, ribbons, sheets & costumes.Most have been stashed away and unseen since the late 1800s. Please check back to my sales this week for more treasures and please see my other items. xx

Dating from the late 1800s this is an absolutely exquisite antique French plaster wall plaque that was originaly kept behind domed glass.

Sadly, when the glass was damaged the plaque was no longer used for display and was packed away in tissue, the fact it had been kept behind glass and then swiftly packed did not allow it to accumulate dust and marks..so it remains a beautiful ivorycream.

Made of plaster the detailing is stunning.

Two seated Winged Angels sit Either side of a large cross, the cross is embelished with a sun-burst and dove to signify peace.

The two Angels have their wings splayed and each feather is defined, One clutches curcifix to her chest the other holds a banner thatsplays across them both..

The banner reads:

JE CROIS EN DIEU

The angels have tubling curls and their gowns fall in folds so deatiled and just divine.

At their feet is a winged Cherub head his eyes gazing to the heavens he is surroundedby clouds one of which carries the scrolled word:

BLOCH

The back has two screws and nuts from where it was held in place.

Hight 8" Width 5" Dept 1.5"

The only dammage I can see is the base of the wing on the angel on the left is missing which was caused when the glass was broken.
