Magnificentantique Japanese Kutani Shishi okimono. Stunning, sculptural form with a strong, fierce presence. Hand crafted porcelain with amazing detail in the curling mane and tail, muscular body, piercing eyes, and sharp teeth and claws. Fashioned with great care by the Japanese craftsman to create the undulating contours, with deep rich aubergine on the body and exquisite emerald green adorning the mane and tail,drawing attention from all the way across the room. Absolutely spectacular. We haverarely seen a Kutani shishi ashandsome as this one. Both pleasing visually and also tactilely inviting. Must beexperienced in person to fully appreciate the feel and magnificence of this piece. In excellent antique condition with a sublime patina, this exquisite statue measures approximately 11\" tall and 13 1/4\" in length. Dates to the Edo Period (1603-1868), the era of the Shogun and Samurai. Signed on the underside of the front paw. Bold and dramatic from every angle with lifelike stance. A rare and skillfully crafted masterwork, and an exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating collector of Japanese antiques.
