STUNNING ANTIQUE JAPANESE SATSUMA VASE

Exquisite Raised Gilding, Meiji Period (c. 1890)

Pencil shown in photo above to illustrate minute size ofsuperb micro detailing

Spectacular Japaneseceramic vase of the finest Satsuma quality. Exquisite, intricate detail from every angle, featuring hand painted images of Samurai and Daimyo (Lords) with their families, clad in beautiful kimonos with intricate hand-painted brocades, and ornate Samurai armor. Eight finely detailed reserves band round the piece, each containing a tasteful and artistic scene. Men, women, children and scholars, surrounded by harmonious naturescapes and graceful arching trees. The figures are exceptionally well painted with minute details that must have been done with a single-haired brush. The surface is further ornately gilt with sublime micro sized raised gilding that highlights all of the varied and gorgeous brocades of their kimonos, fans, armor, hairpieces, and swords. The gilding extends to the areas between the reserves, filling the space withremarkable intricacy in traditional Japanese nishikide patterns: kame (tortoiseshell), karakusa (arabesque), Seigaiha (waves), and many others. Too much to list, see photos for all of the amazing detail. The photo with pencil for reference on the size of the minute and complex masteryof thepainting. This superb vase is inexcellent antique condition, and must have taken innumerable hours of concentrated hand craftsmanship to produce, then been carefully stored by all of the fortunate owners for over 100 years.Photographs cannot do justice to this piece, as it is absolutely stunning in person. Signed on the underside, this impeccable vase measures approximately 6 1/8\" tall. One of the finestvases that we have ever offered, of the quality usually reserved for museums and found in books. A rare and extraordinary centerpiece for the discriminating connoisseur of the finest Japanese antiques.
