Large, exceptional quality Russian solid silver Trompe L\'oeil - Samorodok cigarette case - circa 1920\'s.
The entire surface is masterfully worked to assimilate a rough tree-bark or a forest floor - the texture is amazing to see and touch - probably the most interesting Trompe L\'oeil / Samorodok texture I have seen - the interior is gilt and is still very bright and vivid - the stone is a green emerald cabochon.
The Samorodok texture is achieved by heating the metal to nearly the melting point and than cooling it quickly in cold water.
The Russian hallmarks for 875 or 84 silver correspond to 1920-1925 with a bust for Moscow - similar to Kokoshnik marks.Exceptional work quality - highly attractive and appealing.
