ACCORDING TO BOTH RECOGNIZED AUTHORITIES\' BOOKS(RUSSELL RULAU AND Q. DAVID BOWERS, THERE ARE ANESTIMATED 21-75 OF THESE KNOWN TO EXIST.

You are offerding on a genuine keepsake of the American Civil War. Privately minted tokens, most penny-sized like this authentic 1863 example, were produced during the Civil War to supplement a shortage created by the need for copper and brass. Stores and businesses used these as change in place of the scarcer pennies. Most exhibited either advertisements(store cards), like this one,or Patriotic symbols orslogans in support of the Union.
