-............IT IS EXCEEDINGLY RARE TO FIND A DATED SAMPLER FROM THE FIRST HALF OF THE 1700s!! This exquisitely stitched Friesian sampler is signed/initialed twice; once in the cartouche above the very early 1745 date (\'S.R.\"); and also in oversized, highly ornamented letters flanking the date \"S.R.\" In the same, dramatically embellished double silhouette lettering, the samplermaker also included the initials of her parents and sibling...\"ADR (father)....MRR (mother)...GR\". The vivid colors include highlights of yellow silk, blue,teal,and deep burgandy; creating wonderful contrast. In addition to the rare, highly distinctive Friesian embellished alphabets, the samplermaker included a large,visual impact folk art heart, diminutive Dutch people in period 1745 outfits,floral urn, and unusual geometric elements. The sampler features an unusual horizontal format (appx 13x24) with great overall visual appeal and color, and is conserved on acid free board in an antique gold frame......a must for passionate sampler collectors of rare 18thC examples.
