Conradus Gritsch, Grütsch, (around 1409 – 1475)
Franziscan, preacher of the Jesuit Order, was born in Basle and was teaching in Paris and Vienna.
As printer in Augsburg he was evident between 1475 and 1479.DESCRIPTION
Magnificent and opulent rare Incunable printed in the printery by Johann Wiener in Augsburg.
From his officin only 20 works are well-known.
This copy of the Quadragesimale is the third edition generally – the first printed by Wiener.
Wiener was influenced by the type of Günther Zainer.

Old handwritten owners note on leaf 1 „Monasterii Diessen“.
Inside the front cover with handwritten note also: „Inc.Imp.Nr.1185 Duplum“.

Also with blindstamped owner mark from the german criminal lawyer Dr. Detlef Mauss on first leaf („Ex Bibliotheca Dr. Detlef Mauss) and with some comments by his hand.

BESCHREIBUNG
Voluminöse Inkunabel dieses seltenen und frühen Augsburger Druckes aus der Offizin des Johann Wiener.
Aus seiner Offizin sind lediglich nur etwa 20 Drucke bekannt!
Bei der hier vorliegenden Inkunabel handelt es sich um die insgesamt dritte Ausgabe, aber die erste bei Johann Wiener gedruckte, der im Kolophon hier erstmals seine Vaterstadt Wien erwähnt.
Bei der verwendeten Drucktype wurde Wiener von der Type aus der Offizin von Günther Zainer beeinflusst.
Das Quadragesimale ist eine umfangreiche Sammlung von Fastenpredigten des damals höchst populären Jesuitenpredigers Conrad Gritsch. Diese Bezeichnung fußt auf der 40-tägigen Fastenzeit von Aschermittwoch bis Karsamstag.
Aus interessanter Provenienz des Klosters Dießen.

Einband
Kompakter und wohlerhaltener Einband ohne die Schließen und Zierstücke.
Buchblock und Bindung fest und stabil.
Mehrere kleine Wurmlöcher in den Deckeln.
eckel altersfleckig, Kanten leicht bestoßen.
Rücken mit Längsriss im Leder.
Ohne den vorderen Spiegel, dadurch werden die mittelalterliche Manuskripthandschrift sowie
der Holzdeckel sichtbar.

Papier
Guter bis sehr guter Zustand.
Kräftiger, original belassener, breitrandiger Druck auf festem Büttenpapier.
Die ersten acht und die letzten drei Blatt mit stärkeren Wurmgängen, hier auch etwas
Buchstabenverlust.Sonst nur einige Blatt am Anfang sowie Ende im Bug mit kleinen Wurmlöchlein außerhalb desTextes.
Wenige Blatt etwas finger- und schmutzfleckig, sonst sehr sauberes Exemplar.
Einige zeitgenössische handschriftliche Marginalien.
Keine Ausrisse, Risse oder Textverluste.

PROVENIENZ
Die Inkunabel ist ein Dubletten-Exemplar des Klosters Dießen am Ammersee.
Ein handschriftlicher Eintrag dazu befindet sich auf Blatt 1 „Monasterii Diessen“.
Vorderer Spiegel ebenfalls mit handschriftlichem Besitzvermerk des Klosters Dießen „Inc.Imp.Nr.1185 Duplum“. Hierbei handelt es sich um ein ehemaliges Kloster der Augustiner-Chorherren in Bayern in der Diözese Augsburg.

Aus dem Besitz des Strafrechtlers und Rechtsanwaltes Dr. Detlef Mauss.
Ein entsprechender Blindstempel „Ex Bibliotheca Dr. Detlef Mauss“ befindet sich ebenso auf Blatt 1 im unteren Rand mit eigenhändigem Kommentar in Bleistift, wo er bedauert, ein derartiges, genuines Buch in Vorzeiten mit einem Prägestempel versehen zu haben. ERKLÄRUNG
