AN EXTREMELY RARE MATCHED PAIR OF EARLY 18TH CENTURY WROUGHT IRON BETTY LAMP OR LANTERN SPIKES IN A DESIRABLE \"FOUR LEAF CLOVER\" DECORATED PATTERN STILL RETAINING THEIR ORIGINAL SPIKES AND BOTH IN THE BEST OLD GRUNGY SURFACE AND PATINA. NEW ENGLAND, CIRCA 1720-1740.

These rare and decorative items were nailed into the beam or wall and used to hold Betty lamps or lanterns.

Great tool marks throughout. Great early forge marks as shown. An old polished surface with nice color and patina.

THE USE OF THE FOUR LEAF CLOVER PATTERN IS EXTREMELY RARE. MUCH LIKE THE SIMILAR \"SALEM CROSS\" DECORATION, THE FOUR LEAF CLOVER PATTERN WAS THOUGHT TO BE A \"GOOD LUCK\" SIGN, THESE WOULD BE NAILED INTO THE BEAMS OF A BARN OR HOME TO WARD OFF THE EVIL SPIRITS.

1 1/4\" square, 4 1/2\" spike.

Typical wear and imperfections with age as described above. One spike is missing 1/4\" from the end.
