Early 1960s Barbie And Ken As King And Queen Of Mardi Gras For Sale
This sale is for two dolls: one Ken doll dated "MCMLX", and one
Barbie doll dated "MCMLVIII". They are dressed as the King and
Queen of Mardi Gras.
These belonged to my great-grandmother, and unfortunately I know very
little about them. I am hoping somewhere here will be familiar with these
As far as I can tell, these are exceptionally rare, or perhaps even one-of-a-kind items. I have scoured the Internet and I was unable to find any
information on these whatsoever -- the only other Mardi Gras-related
Barbies I could find are from the 1980s.
Unfortunately, they are not in pristine condition. I always aim to be 100%
upfront regarding any defects in items in my sales, and here are the
issues I have found with these dolls:
Clothing Stains - There are quite a few stains on both Barbie and Kens clothing. A large
portion of Barbie's dress below the waist is stained, as are various spots
along the edges of both of their trains. Ken's clothing also has some
stains. I am hoping that there is a way to clean these up, but I am no
expert in this area so I am leaving it as-is.
Discolorations - Barbie is suffering from some "green ear" on her left ear. She has a small earring on both ears, although her right ear seems to be fine. There is also some sort of dark area around her neck, but it appears that it will rub off.. I am however leaving this up to someone who knows what they are doing.
Missing Items - Barbie has no shoes.
Other issues - The golden parts at the end of Ken's sleeves are falling off. Hopefully this could be repaired.
There may be other condition issues which I have missed, or other items which may be missing. However, I have tried to provide as many different pictures as possible, so that you can have a very clear picture as to what you are offerding on.
Although these dolls are not in perfect condition, they are surely incredible pieces, and must be amazingly rare. I have never been a doll collector, but all I can say after looking at these is "Wow!". If you like vintage Barbies as well as Mardi Gras, then this has to be something you have dreamed about! :)
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
The dolls will be shipped insured via USPS Priority Mail within 1 business day of payment being received.
