BernardDawahoya began working with silver in 1956. He learned from his uncles, the HopiSilvercraft Guild, and was one of the original silversmiths hired by Hopi Enterprisesin 1961; they soon changed their name to Hopicrafts. Eventually he worked for himself.

He is a legendary artisanwho was a force in the evolution of Hopi overlay jewelry and was a teacher ofmany other great artists. One referenceI use had him down for over 30 awards in major shows; only 4 for 3rd place. His work is included in many museumcollections including Harvard University\'s Peabody Museum and the HeardMuseum.

Bernard was a Hopi man and respected the Hopi past and present. His work used representative designs for manythings including wind, sun, and rain.
