Early 19th Century Vasiform Splat Back Windsor Arm Chair Stamped M QUINCEY:
$990.00

This sale features what I believe to be is a rare late 1700s European vasiform splat back, low back Windsor chair. It\'s primitive construction includes visible pegs in the seat from where the legs are attached, peg construction throughout and uneven turnings. There are also nails throughout the chair that I believe were added later for reinforcement or perhaps a historic repair. The finish is undeniably original and with a beautiful patina. Its original and period spanish brown painted surface is extensively worn as one would expect along the seat, back, and especially along the armrests, which are so smooth they have a different feel than the rest of the wood. The hoop back and comb design is accented by a simple and unornate splat with a marginal vase shape. The feet are worn and at uneven lengths, but the chair has been leveled. It is strong and sturdy and can easily still perform its intended function. It stands approximately 34.5\" high, and the seat is approximately 19.5\" wide. The bottom of the chair is branded MQUINCEY but I have not been able to find any information on this maker.
