For your consideration:
Antique Ridgways \"Catskill Moss\", Fairmount Gardens, blue transferware plate.
This early 19th century piece was manufactured by William Ridgway, Son & Co., in Staffordshire, England. The creamy off white and blue / grey dinner plate is 9\" diameter and features a fancy renaissance pattern issued for the American market. There is a wonderful embossed design around the rim which is also highlighted in blue. This piece dates from circa 1844-1846.Transferware is a decorative technique developed in England in the mid 18th century. My research found the plate is decorated with transfers taken from WH Bartlett engravings of America; the scene is of Fairmount Gardens, Philadelphia. The back of the plate is marked Catskill Moss Rigeways Fairmount Gardens England, cc, in the same blue as the front of the plate. See photos. The plate is in great condition and is very clean. I do not see any chips, cracks, repairs or discolorations. There is over-all age crazing on the back front and back, typical of this type of ware. I personally think the crazing adds to the character of this very old plate. Photos show overall condition. This beautiful pattern is included in \"The Collection Online\" for the Metropolitan Museum of Art; the piece would be a wonderful addition to your blue transferware collection! Item is from my mother\'s estate and is in as-is vintage condition. Please keep in mind that vintage and antique items might show some wear, discoloration, scratches etc., commensurate with age of piece. May have minor manufacturing imperfections such as flaws or bubbles in glazing, dimples, mold marks, missed glazing, glaze pops, etc., that might not be noticed and called out in the description above.I am not an expert, but I try to describe the items to best of my ability & knowledge, however I may accidentally miss something.
