An interesting and rather charming American Rococo Revival repousse and hand chased coin silver cream jug with an engraved inscription on the front. The inscription reads \'Julia Griffith Tillinghast from her Grandmother Tillinghast\'. Amazingly I could not find a maker\'s name on the piece, but based on where the Tillinghasts resided (Troy, NY), I\'m assuming that it\'s by a New York maker. According to an online search, Julia Griffith Tillinghast was born in 1849 and died in infancy meaning that the creamer was probably given to her by her grandmother around 1850. She was the daughter of Thomas Allen Tillinghast and Margareta Scott Griffith, two important early figures in NY history. It weighs approximately 143 grams and measures almost 4\" high. A historically interesting piece of American Rococo silver!
