This is a wonderful early wooden German doll, called an Oberammergau in honor of the carvers of the region who created her. Families would spend cold winter months creating these dolls, as well as religious figures, a longstanding tradition in this area, still practiced today. The influence of these religious figures can be seen in the grace of her carved torso her head, and her expressive hands. This doll is circa 1820, all wood, jointed at the hips, knees, shoulders and elbows, with a graceful decolletage. She stands 28\" tall. Her clothing is multilayered and fits her perfectly. It consists of a hand sewn flannel under slip, with shoulder straps, a heavier cotton full slip, also handsewn. This is finely gathered at the waist in tiny tucks and lined at arm holes. Over this she had a lace trimmed cotton dress with separate sleeves that tie at her elbows. A long black skirt, a flower enhanced pin, and a finely made white apron complete this look. This lady is 200 years old, so she does have some issues. Her face, I believe suffered some damage at some time in the past and has been restored. I think her painting is all restorative work. Her left foot has been reglued. Photos will show this and if you would like more, please lmk and I can send anything you\'d like to see. My asking price is far less than the $15K I paid for her, so for some lucky collector, she is quite a buy. If needed, I will work with the buyer on layaway if needed.
