This is an absolutely gorgeous Edwardian wedding gown with gobs of lavish, handmade lace. I wish I knew the name of it, but I don\'t. There are heavy bands/tapes that are similar to Battenburg lace, but I think Battenburg is usually made of finer bands. Delicate bands of lace are interspersed with these highly textural designs.
The gown is in need of restoration. However the lace is the most valuable part of the dress and that is in quite nice condition. Not surprisingly, the silk satin is shattered and would need to be replaced if someone wanted to wear this. Happily it would not be a difficult job.

This beauty was obviously worn by at least 2 brides. The second bride removed the sleeves and put in cap sleeves made out of net. Thankfully she didn\'t throw these beauties away. I have just pinned them in place with some tissue stuffing to show how the original dress looked.
She or a third bride also tacked in a separate slip with a delicate lace edging. Not sure why, but she did.
There is an additional piece of the original lace included. I\'m not sure how it was used on the original dress, but I suspect the neckline was lowered when the second bride wore it. Perhaps the dress originally had a high neck and lace yoke. The piece is 43 inches long and 11 inches wide at its widest point.
