An Egyptian light blue glazed faience amulet of the goddess Bastet; seated on an integral base with suspension loop on the back.

Late Dynastic period: Circa 7th-4th century B.C.

As Carol Andrews notes: The female cat was particularly noted for its fecundity and so Bastet was adored as goddess of fertility and, with rather less obvious logic, of festivity and intoxication.
