How beautiful to celebrate thecoming solemnity of the Lord\'s Resurrection in this precious, reverent and eye-catching vesture!
This traditional Vestment and Mass Set (Roman Chasuble, Stole and Maniple) includes a Chalice Veil and Burse as well, all of which is the work of Amanex Fine Vestments of New York, a company no longer in business. While this late Baroque Period style is commonly [and erroneously] called a \"fiddleback\" - which term properly refers to the Spanish / Iberian version of this style in which the back of the vestment is shaped, literally, like a bass fiddle [cello/viola] - its authentic name is as it is listed here. Liturgically suitable for celebration of the Mass of Pius V [aka \"Tridentine\" or \"Extraordinary Form\" Rite], this set includes all the vesting items required for that venerable Liturgy.
The base fabric is a gold metallic brocade/jacquard with a radiant but subtle vine/floral pattern which catches the light to excellent effect [see photos 6 & 7] and which fabric is unavailable anywhere that we can find in modern catalogs. Rich scarlet velvet orphreys [\"bandings\"] adorn front and back of the Chasuble in the traditional pattern for this style, as well as featured in the distal ends of the Stole and in the crosses on both Chalice Veil and Burse [Photo 5].
As shown in photo 3, there is a vesica on the back of the Chasuble with a tone-on-tone gold image of Christ the High Priest offering the outward signs of the Eucharist [the host and chalice] in invitation to the Sacred Banquet. All the items are lined in a red satin, as shown. As is common with this style, there are\"binding cords\" attached to the inside back panel of the Chasuble to secure it in place during the ceremony [photo 4] and the Stole has a thin removable \"sweat band\" attached to the neckline near the \"kissing cross\".
As much as photography can, the pictures above convey the elegance and dignity of this wonderful garment and show the excellent condition in which it was preserved in the sacristy cedar closet. Of course, a dry-cleaning would be a good idea for any garment of this vintage, but there are neither tears nor stains that would prevent this set from being used immediately. At the neck in the back of the Chasuble, there is a light discoloration in the velvet and a small similar blemish on the velvet front orphrey midway down; these are shown in photos 7 & 8 and are virtually negligible as can be seen therein.
This vestment set has served to enhance the Eucharistic Liturgy for decades here. To that end we fully expect that it will used by any purchaser for the sacred purposes for which it was created. If that is notyour intent, please do not offer on this garment.
