English Pewter Quart Tankard Measure by Hale & Sons of Bristol Circa 1790 :

Simple but elegant body form with bold handle with \'signature\' Hale Shield form terminal, andin good antique used condition with 1 nick and 3 very tight and minor splits to the rim lip and a cleaned silver-gray patina. Upon close inspection, many light scratches, mostly due to the cleaning, are apparent. This is reflected in the offer price - Hale mugs usually fetch much higher amounts and this mug is still a nice example of the Hales\' work.Please see the photos.Standing 5.9 inches tall - 4 inch rim diameter and 4.9 inch base diameter, and weighing 21.7 oz.Capacity: holds 1122 ml when filled to the brim and 1034 ml when filled to 1/4 inch below rim.

The maker\'s touch [ Swan Head set on a length of Ropewith HALE above and AND SONS below ] is struck to the interior bottom.

Working years of the Hale & Sons operation, with William Hale as proprietor, were 1778 to 1782. Williams sons, Thomas and Richard, took over and operated until 1815. The above touch was used throughout.
