ENGLISH GEORGE IV STERLING SILVER SHELL & FLORAL TEAPOT; WILLIAM BATEMAN, 1829; CROWNED LION CREST

This is a beautifully cafted George IV sterling silver pear shape teapot.

Bearing a richly engraved standing lion with crowne family crest.

From William Bateman. Third generation of the famed London silver family. Apprenticed under father John 1789. First listed in 1800 with uncle Peter and mother Anne.

Listed alone only a handful of years from 1815. Shortly after involved in gas and coal business, as well as public works.

This 1829 pear shape teapot adorned with richly hand chased shell framed interwoven vine displays. Alternating with starburst forette, shell and vine to more slender panels.

Well cast cver. Topped with delicately hand chased flower finial in mid-bloom, above two layers of slender petal.

Leaf cap floral panelled swan\'s neck spout. Equally well cast rippling leaf cap handle. Retains the original heat stops.

This 1829 Bateman crowned lion handle teapot is 8 inches handle to spout and 5 3/4 tall.

Exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling silver weighs 21 (standard) ounces.

Hallmarked as shown.

In excellent condition. Rich sterling patina throughout. Handle secure and with original heat stops. The beautifuly chased shell and floral work and mid-bloom flower finial retain their original crisp detail.
