We are pleased to offer this extremely rare Victorian shell and floral wine cistern.

Meant to cool several bottles of wine, while placed alongside dinner table.

Common in Europe. The cistern not introduced into England until 17th century. Most silver examples are larger, 32 inches or more. However, this petite example easily cools six bottles of your favorite wines.

From the Atkin Bros., Sheffield in 1895.

Classic wide oval form.

The rim adorned with series of beautifully cast twin shell set in leafy frame displays, gently curved at crest. United by thin petal gadroon streams.

Centre with beautifully engraved plumed knight's helmet, above interlocked LB.

Flanked by repoussed sun flower and rose, amidst smooth surface vine scroll.

Atop thick well cast gadroon edge oval base, with conforming leaf and floral decoration.

Original gold wash interior. Finished with unique scrolling wave pattern to interior centre.

Hallmarked.

Victorian sterling silver cistern is 14 1/2 inches long and 11 1/2 wide.

The entire piece crafted using exceptionally thick, heavy guage sterling weighs 61 1/2 (standard) ounces.

Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. The beautifully carved shell and floral medallion and displays retain their original crisp, vibrant hand chased detail. Original glistening gold wash interior. No liner.
