ENGLISH STERLING TANKARD COAT ARMS 1734 36 OUNCES

We are quite pleased to offer this important early George II tankard.

John Fossey 1734.

Bearing beautifully engraved family coat of arms and motto as shown. The arms almost certainly from one of the specialty engraving shops in 18th century London.

Tapering form, tucked at base. Waldron illustrates the identical tankard design, see image below.

Centre girdle and center family arms as noted.

The domed cover with central boss, unusual design.

Rod and spiral foliate volute thumb piece.

Tapering S handle with applied urn and oval drop to center. The handle with circle engraved tray and globe terminal.

Hallmarked under base for John Fossey and under cover & rim for Francis Nelme.

This important early George II tankard is 8 inches tall and 36 1/2 standard ounces.

In very fine condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. Stands perfectly firm on table or display shelf. The coat of arms retains most all of its original detail. Interior clean. Cover well fit. Interior wall where lower handle terminal meets faint fatigue lines, do not go through wall nor do they show on outside.
