We are quite pleased to offer this important George I Provincial tankard.

Crafted by Pentecost Seymour in 1722.

First listed 1706. Examples in major collections worldwide.

Generally agreed that his work was equal to that of the great London makers of the period including Lamerie and Willaume.

Classic cylindrical form.

Shell and vine framed center medallion, never monogrammed. Set amidst leaf and floral sprays and vine scroll. On satin, almost strawberry (pitted) surface.

The cover fully hallmarked. Rare, normally just partial marks.

Wavy panel or foliate volute thumb piece.

The tapering handle with unique column and spear tip strap work. Ending in folded shield to lower end.

The later added spout with chased floral and leaf.

Under the base 1822 presentation.

The base and cover both fully hallmarked.

This important 1722 Exeter tankard is 9 inches handle to edge and 7 1/2 inches tall and weighs 30 standard ounces.

Excellent condition. Rich, lustreous silver patina. Stands perfectly firm on table or display shelf. The chased shell and floral retains its original detail. Interior clean. Cover well fit.
