Erotic Bronze - Pan/Styr/Faun and Nymph Sculpture:

This bronze has been in my collection forover 20 years. I purchased it from a collector in New Orleans who was unable to provide me with the details or origin of the sculpture. I know that is is bronze and it is approximately 4.5 Ft in height and weighs approximately 100 lbs. It is in good condition and I venture to say \"one of a kind\". I have searched endlessly but have never been able to find another like it. Exquisitedetail!
Fauns and Satyrs, half human–half goats (from the head to the waist being human, but with the addition of goat horns) lived in the circle of the gods Bacchus and Pan and were a manifestation of forest and animal spirits. Fauns and Satyrs were originally quite different creatures: whereas fauns are half-man and half-goat, satyrs originally were depicted as stocky, hairy, ugly dwarfs or with the ears and tails of horses or asses. Satyrs also were more woman-loving than fauns, and fauns were rather foolish where satyrs had more knowledge. Anyhow, both are known as women chasers who hammered at Nymphs with undue familiarity; and even tried to rape them. Besides fauns and Satyrs, other mythical creatures – half human-half horses - Centaurs also visited Nymphs for similar intentions. However, Nymphs didn\'t hesitate to resist and the fights between them and their attackers inspired artists and particularly, sculptors.
Nymphs fighting back against satyrs trying to rape them. This is very popular subject for artists, especially sculptors. As you can see, the emotional charge in such fights sometimes is much higher than in female-female wrestling.
