* extremely clean condition, some soiling and marks from storage
* Lid still intact, some loss of wood on the lid rim
* One split on one of the bottom planks
* The real thing, you can see the hand sawn marks, the plane marks, the doweling of the handle, all clearly part of 1800s wooden Utilitarian Object craftmanship... Still quite solid after all these years!
We believe this was made for tree tapping use, but one of the bottom boards split during construction. Clearly unusable for collecting a liquid sap!!! Left as is for another use... then decades later, found in storage in our family antebellum (pre-Civil War) Maine farm house.
A wonderful decorative piece, or use for wastebasket, storing yarn balls while knitting, other odds and ends!
