This is a handsome group of four prints be renowned artist of Judaica, Iyla Schor (1904-1961). Born in Zloczow in the then Austrian Empire, Schor first trained as an apprentice in metalwork and engraving before enrolling at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts in 1930 where he studied painting. Seven years later, he was awarded a grant to study in Paris where he flourished as an artist. Schor exhibited and was well received at the Salon d’Automne in 1938. The dangers of WWII in Paris forced Schor and his wife to immigrate to New York City in 1940. Once in America, Schor continued to illustrate Eastern European Judaica in a unique way through metalcraft, painting, and engravings. This group of four original linocut prints are typical of the types of prints produced by the artist. Each is signed in pencil as pictured. In overall very good condition with mild toning and scattered stains. There are creases and uneven edges. This condition is consistent with age and method of display/storage. The largest print measures 9 1/2\" x 6 7/8\". The smallest, with the vase of flowers is 6 5/8\" x 4 7/8\". This group of prints would make a striking decorative addition to your home.
