A rare relief woodcarvingfrom iconic Californiamodernist Evelyn Ackerman (1924-2012). Evelyn and herhusbandJerome lived in Los Angeles from the 1950s on and created a diverse line of art objects and home furnishings across many media. This carved wood panel demonstrates Ackerman\'s modernist aesthetic; a stylized Madonna-like mother holds the hands of her small child. It is carved with simple lines and primitive, organic patterns. The piece is signed at the lower right, \"EA.\" This is may be earlier studio piece (1950s?), given that it lacks the ERAIndustries mark that is on many of the later carvings. A fantastic piece for the collector!
Front of carving is excellent. Back of carving has some holes from prior mounting, with a small crack where one was too close to the edge. One small chip from lower back corner.
