Eversharp Fifth Avenue “6?4” 14K Solid Gold Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, c.1950:
$162.50

Up for sale is one Eversharp Fifth Avenue “64” Solid Gold Fountain Pen and Pencil Set, c.1950 in the original box. According to authority Richard Binder, this pen was only in production for two years. I discovered this set at an estate sale where I was informed it was presented to the owner as a participant’s award for having appeared on the “Sixty-Four Dollar Question” radio show. Eversharp made a clever tie-in arrangement with a radio quiz program that was popular at that time, called Take It or Leave It (better known as The $64 Question). The company produced limited edition Sixty Fours with a question mark, straddled by the numbers 6 and 4, engraved on the cap immediately below the clip. The cap on this pen and pencil are stamped with the “6?4” logo. The lever filled pen is approximately 4 ½ inches capped (ladies model?). The cap is stamped at the top Eversharp, 14K Solid Gold, Pat. Made in U.S.A. The clip is stamped with the Wahl Eversharp double check mark logo. The barrel is Black with a 14K Solid Gold end cap. The hooded nib is also 14K gold. The ink sac is crystallized and has not been restored. The matching pencil is approximately 4 ¾ inches in length and has a 14K Solid Gold Cap with button on top to advance the lead. The button can be removed to expose a hidden eraser. The mechanism works freely. The pencil’s cap has two small indentations on the back side opposite the clip (see picture). The set is boxed in the original maroon velvet box marked on the inside top EVERSHARP “Sixty Four”. The condition is used, unrestored, with minimal evidence of wear or use. This set is extremely rare with tremendous investment potential. Offered with a reasonable reserve. This set will make a valuable and historical addition to your collection or a gift for that special pen collector on your Christmas shopping list. Please check the pictures carefully before offerding. I will ship to most international locations. Thanks for offerding.
