This wonderful little frog was found at the estate of wealthy world travelers on Cape Cod. This item is outside of my \"wheelhouse,\" so I\'ll do my best to describe it. Feel free to ask questions. I honestly can\'t say, after hours of research, if this is Japanese or Chinese. It certainly is an antique and easily over 100 years old. It has the rich, warm patina and smooth surface that only comes from years of handling. He is carved from bamboo root, with the root itself dictating the shape, size, placement of his legs and the number of bumps on his back. It is hard to see in the photo, but one front and two back legs are carved away from the body. There is a hole in the one side near his mouth -- a friend suggested that he might have once had a carved grub in this space. The underside has the characteristic small bumps of bamboo and an oval section in the middle which we at first thought was a mark, but it is not.

Measures about 2 1/4\" in length and about 1 1/4\" in height.
