Exceptional Group of Miniature Stone Fruit
Eight (8) Pieces
From New York Winter Antiques Show
at The Armory
Honest miniature stone fruit are hard to find, and ones as early as these nearly impossible anymore. The collector whoowned this grouping of eight pieces purchased them from a dealer exhibiting at the January Winter Antiques Show, at the Main Armory in NYC, about ten years ago. As he had purchased several small items at that show that year, he cannot remember thespecific dealer from whom he purchased them.
This circa 1880-1920 set of eight fruit include an Orange, Pear, Lemon, Plum, two Apples and two Bananas. This is the nicest group of early miniature fruit that I have personally seen, and only one apple has enough wear that I would term noticeable. The rest of the fruit are in excellent surface condition and patina.
To provide you an idea as to sizes, the Orange is 1 5/8" diameter by 1 3/16" high, the Pear 1 5/16" diameter by 1 11/16" high, the smallest banana is 2 3/8" long and the largest 2 11/16" long. The collector is also including the early plate he had displayed them on in his house, and this plate is 4 3/8" in diameter.
A nice display grouping.
Thanks for looking.
