Up for sale is anExceedingly Scarce, Fine Authentic Original Photograph circa early 1860\'s of a Union Soldier. Mountedinside Velvet Lined Case, the soldier is seated wearing his hardee hat with infantry bugle and 10 button shell jacketwith highly detailed gold and pink embellishment.

This photograph is in oustanding condition as shown in the photos. The glass, matte, and photo show no noticeable defects. The case has come apart but is complete and in otherwise very good condition and repairable. The size is 3 5/8\" x 3 1/8\". This is a fine example of a scarce authentic period photograph worthy of a museum and/or the most discerning of private collectors from the early years of the Civil War. This was purchased at a major gallery sale that cataloged and sold it as a daguerreotype, but upon my examination, I believe it is most likely an ambrotype. It is quite hard to tell as it is some what toned and reflective like a daguerreotype, but daguerreotype\'s would have been very rare to have been made during the civil war period as most of the cased images of this quality were ambrotype. It is possible it was very early in the war and is a true daguerreotype. I will not accept a return if you find the catalog online from the sale that lists it as a daguerrotype as its sold as in my determination an ambrotype as I truly believe it to be an ambrotype and the major sale house got it wrong in their evaluation. It was not examined out of the case or backing as its in outstanding condition and did not want to break any air tight seal and risk further oxidation. Therefore, it is sold as is, an ambrotype or possible daguerreotype, so please examine all photos taken in various angles and lighting prior to making an offer. Its an incredible authentic period photo in outstanding condition of great value!
