Museum Quality Hand Painted Meiji Japanese Kutani Three-Legged Koro With Figural Scene.


Brand/Provenance: Kutani, Japan.

Age: Meiji Period (1868 - 1912).

Size: The piece measures 14.5cm at widest point, and 14cm high

Artist/signature: The piece is signed by the famous Kutani artist Kaburagi Sei (Kaburagi Made), to the base of the koro.

Condition: The vase is in GOOD condition with onlyminor gilt restoration to the rim of the koro. Otherwise decoration is A++ and has been very well looked after. Please see photos for better understanding of condition.

Comments: An exceptional and RARE Japanese Kutani koro, signed Kaburagi Sei from the Meiji Period. This UNIQUE museum quality example depicts a main figural scenearound the central 360 degree panel. Each figure isdetailed with extreme precision, and magnificent gilt highlights are present on clothing, furniture andpossessions of the individuals in the scene. The shoulders of themoro feature exceptional geometric decoration with 12individual geometric patterned cartouches, accompanied by surrounding floral decoration and wonderful gilt highlights. The decoration on theshoulders is some of the finest i have come across in a while. Furthermore, the koro features gilded handles and an exception lid featuring a gilded finial, and a wonderful gilded floral pattern. The base of the koro is decorated with a gentle floral pattern, again accompanied by gentle gilt highlights.
