Exquisite 19th C, gilded bronze sculptures/bookends, Bewinged Lion and Bull:

We are happy to offer these antique, 19th C, fantasticly decorative and massive sculptures / bookends.

The craftmanship is impressive with all the details in the fur and expressions.

The bewinged lion and bull are made of gilded bronze and are mounted on a carrara marble plate.

My guess is that they are made around 1860-1880 and possibly from France or central Europe.

Dimensions:

They are about 19 cm high and the wheight a massive 2,6 kg (Lion) and 2,3 kg (Bull)

The bases in cararra marble measures 9 x 9 cm

was a Finnish baron, botanist, geologist, mineralogist andarctic explorerofFinland-Swedishorigin.

He was a member of the of scientists.

Born in theGrand Duchy of Finlandat the time it was apart of theRussianEmpire,he was later, due to his political activity,

forced to live in political exile in Sweden, where he later would become amember of theParliament of Swedenand theSwedish Academy.

He is most remembered for theVegaexpeditionalong the northern coast ofEurasia, which he led in 1878 and1879.

This was the first complete crossing of theNortheastPassage.
