Exquisite 5 pc Cutlery Set Sheffield Joseph Rogers & Sons 1896 Fitted Box. This beautiful set was made by Joseph Rogers & Sons in Sheffield England in 1896. The handle portion on each side is marked with sterling silver hallmarks JS Sheffield crown, a walking lion, and date letter d. The handles have light monograms of a M. The blades, fork portion and meat skewer are made of steel. The 5 pieces are in the fitted case with velvet and wood with a brass cartouche on the top. In the case it is marked on the velvet Joseph Rogers & Sons Cutlers to Her Majesty S. Norfolk Street Sheffield. All of the cutlery pieces are vey heavy and have the same beautiful leaf like silver pattern on each handle. This is an extremely rare set that was very expensive when purchased and only the most wealthy people could afford it. The set is in excellent condition with a few minor hairlines to the handles. The large knife measures 16-1/2 inches long, the small knife measures 12-1/4 inches long. The large fork measures 12 inches long. The small fork measures 10-3/4 inches long. The meat skewer measures 14 inches long. The silver portion on the large knife measures 2-3/4 inches long. The box measures 18-1/2 inches long by 8-1/2 inches wide. This is an extremely rare set in excellent condition sure to please the new owner. (Item #43226)
