This is simply one of the finest Normandy lace coverlets to be found. It\'s an exceptional size and is in excellent condition. (Please note photo\'s taken in natural light under different lighting conditions and with different backgrounds, this is a soft ivory white color.)

It appears barely if ever used, retaining a small white with blue embroidered Made in France tag. Measures a HUGE 87 inches total across the width, with 15 inch ruffled embroidered very fine net lace side panels. And then 97 inches in length of the finest rows upon rows of French valenciennes, French embroidered net laces and hand embroidered cotton batiste rounds and half rounds adorning the center and platform edges.

The net lace side panels are absolutely PERFECT and without holes or flaws. (nearly impossible to find in this condition), Fabulous, especially when you consider this is approaching 120 years old or more. It\'s actually too large for the bed it\'s displayed on as the platform portion spills over. It\'s gorgeous on any bed small or large.

This piece has much more detail, is much more intricate and has many more hours of handwork in lace and assembly than others with large areas of embroidered net in a single pattern. This lovely piece has an intricate and detailed design with rows upon rows of french lace trim and is rounded out with accents of embroidered tulle net. The very fine embroidered net tulle side panels are ruffled and the tulle net again is PERFECT without holes or tears. VERY impressive and rare to find one in this condition; I\'ve never before seen one with the netting so perfect. The gorgeous cotton batiste rounds are delicately hand embroidered with satin stitch roses and tiny accent stitches in the petals giving a wonderful dimension to the design.

This has been cleaned with professional products and is ready to use. There are stunning pictures at the end taken in natural sunlight to show the natural soft white color outdoors. Other pictures taken indoors some with dark background, some with a soft blue satin underliner (underliner isn\'t included but could be easily duplicated with any pastel satin) this accounts for the variations in the photo\'s. This would be gorgeous enough to wear for a long wedding cape and could be fashioned into a veil. Being it is in such fabulous condition, as an investment piece I would not touch a thing. There were 3 small invisible repairs done for minor seam separation, you may find the most minor and few tiny thread breaks in the valenciennes throughout the piece that I may have missed, but no holes or stains or other issues in condition.

This is an investment quality textile and these pieces are not only gorgeous but also hold their value, which is much more than we can say for mass produced pieces of today.

Normandy pieces are thought to be named for the embroidered cap backs of bonnets popular in the French Normandy region and typically used in the designs of these lace patchwork coverlets. These coverlets are almost always hand sewn because of the difficulty in bringing this design together with all these small trims of lace. They reached a height of popularity in the late 19th and into the early 20th century. These are becoming more rare and hard to find. It\'s an exceptional find to obtain one with this intricate design and in this condition and size.
