Very hard to find Navajo handmade sterling silver stamped, graduated pillow bead necklace, 24 inches long and weighs 2 ounces (56.7 grams). Made with 25 pillow beads stamped on both sides (each made of two pieces, then soldered together, the same way Navajo pearls are made), plus six smaller unstamped beads (three on each end followed by five handmade desert pearls and two hand-crafted cones. Strung on afine, original foxtail (link) chain (see photos), and joined with a two-inch chain of classic Navajo circle and loop construction.
The center bead is exactly the size of a U.S. quarter. The necklace is unmarked but tests as sterling; it is also unsigned by the Native American artist, as is typical of 1970s and earlier pieces. This belonged to my grandmother who bought it on her first trip west in 1972. It has been stored in a linen bag for 36 years. PLEASE LOOK AROUND; HANDMADE NAVAJO PILLOW BEAD NECKLACES OF THIE VINTAGE AND QUALITY USUALLY SELL FOR $300-400. Modern Navajo silversmith rarely make these pillow bead necklaces anymore because they take so much more time to craft than Navajo pearls.
