Another of our Extremely Rare artefactsPEWTER PILGRIM BADGE DAGGER CHAPEHighly decorated 13th/14th Century Pewter Pilgrim Badge in the form of a Dagger Chape.

May have actually been used as Dagger Chape as end looks to have been pierced through.
The depiction is probably of Christ and the Apostles Peter & Paul. There is some sort of inscription and it is covered with much beaded decoration and other lines and symbols.
The artefact is decorated both sides with some differences between the two. There has not been any research done on this rare piece, so it may yet have much more significance.

INTERESTING INFORMATION : It has been pointed out that the inscriptions are possibly naïve spellings of IONA the Holy Island of St. Columba who\'s shrine containing the saint\'s bones was first established in 957AD. The Shrine no doubt would have been a place of pilgrimage right through the Medieval period.
